The Worst Post Office In The World, Kensington 11218

Welcome to the site the chronicles the tale of the worst post office on earth, located in Kensington, Brooklyn, NY 11218.

SIGN THE PETITION VOICING YOUR CONCERN

I know this petition is a bit dated, but lets breathe some life into this after another year of inaction.

Manifesto

I know this sounds like hyperbole. But just ask the residents. Watch the videos. Look at the pictures. Read the accounts, the newspaper stories, the letters sent to the post master general, and make the decision for yourself.

I'm generally a very understanding person with a huge threshold for abuse. I turn the other cheek more often than not. However, this institution is so horrific it deserves to be chronicled and documented. My manifesto follows:

  1. I have created this site, made it a public Wiki that anyone can contribute to,
  2. I will try to centralize and source all available information
  3. I will not rest until all customer service currently employed at this location is fired
  4. I will not rest until minimal modern facilities are provided
    1. Stamp machine with stamps and change in it
    2. Envelopes, pens, forms, and customary boxes available
    3. Automated postal service center that prints postage without requiring a multi hour line wait
    4. Stream lined package pick up for undelivered packages held at the facility
    5. Stream lined package drop off for posted packages at the facility
    6. The facilities are renovated to not look like a maximum security prison
  5. I will be fair and unbiased as posible

How Dare You!

A fantastic write up of this incident, quite old (over a year now) can be found at http://gothamist.com/2007/03/23/is_the_kensingt.php … The summary of this article, which was further published at the Daily News, is that a man trying to mail a letter was somehow mistreated by the postal worker — not at all a rare occurrence in my experiences there, and went a bit crazy for a bit. I've done this, although not quite so dramatically, myself on one or two occasions. There is nothing unique, though, about this video, which I hope to prove — I see these sorts of outbursts nearly every time a need to pick up a package there (which is all the time since they never seem to deliver packages either).

The community got together to discuss this, and it has made it to the number one item of discussion for the neighborhood association for years running (this above problems like dog poop and the normal issues).

I spent some time collecting a link list of people with similar pages — I hope that I can structure this page so that everyone can have a centralized place that we can publish as a URL on a flyer throughout the neighborhood to get some action.

The Scene of the Crime

I like the video of this site. It is what I have seen several times at this post office. Every time I went there, I saw the fights between customers and the employees there. In my opinion, the employees at this post office are rude to customers. I personally experienced it myself a couple times. I wish I had a video camera with me to record the fighting scenes like in this video.

One time I was asked "What was inside the package?" I replied "A book." That employee said to me "Are you sure because if they open the package???" I was irritated by that kind of question. I simply said "Yes, I'm sure." I don't know what it was supposed to mean. Do I look like a liar?

I really want to see the improvement of this post office. I believe people can change. Please change!

Letter To Post Master General, Second in a Year to No Effect

Our local councilman has been sending letters to John Potter at least twice, and I have proof of his most recent attempt. In all fairness, I believe that the USPS does respond to these sorts of problems. When I speak with them they are very interested and I get called by investigators, etc. However the employee reaction at the post office tends to be to get revenge on us for complaining by being even more hostile and unhelpful.

Fantastic blog with many entries about this post office

The Kensington Brooklyn blog contains so many entries about attempts — real honest attempts — at addressing the problem through all available means that one can really sense the hopelessness we're faced with on a daily basis as we have to do common functions at the post office. After 2500 years of postal services, it's hard to believe this is the best we can do.

Link List

This is a set of links that are pages made my individuals who simply can't stand it any longer! Read the comments sections, they're *filled* with irate customers.
